About

Although Japan and Singapore lead Asia in Ultimate Frisbee development (with regular league play and aggressive community promotion), Jakarta has had a regular team since 1997 who play every week at the Senayan Complex. DiscIndo have also annually hosted the now world-famous Bali Nusantara Cup since 2000, that is traditionally held during Easter Weekend in Bali, the Island of the Gods.
Called DISCINDO, the Jakarta Ultimate Frisbee team comprises both expatriate (80%) and Indonesian men and women who work in both the private and public sectors, and whose ages range from 16 to 53! In fact, at the last count, the professions Discindo members had covered included lawyers, communications consultants, journalists, economists, bankers, stock analysts, social workers, PHD students, advertisers, television professionals, environment protectors, finance managers, president directors, teachers, embassy employees, gamelan players, etc.
DiscIndo regularly participates as a team in regional tournaments around Southeast Asia, particularly in its home-turf tournament, the Bali Nusantara Cup, and the annual Singapore Ultimate Open. In the most recent Singapore tournament in August 2008, DiscIndo received the prestigious Spirit of the Game (best sportsmanship) award.
As Jakarta and the rest of Indonesia is still largely made up of a culturally homogenous population (hence the “Big Durian”), the DiscIndo team reveals a refreshing glimpse of a cooperative global tomorrow.
